Our Story
I founded The FNN Harbour Foundation UK because I know what it means to live in silence — to be doubted, dismissed, and to carry pain that no one can see.
I have witnessed how emotional and psychological harm can break a person’s spirit long before anyone else notices. In my work and life, I have seen how easily disabled women can become invisible, especially when abuse enters their lives.
For too long, women with disabilities have been left behind in conversations about domestic violence. Services are rarely accessible. Professionals often don’t know how to respond. And the shame of not being believed can be worse than the harm itself. Many are told to be quiet, to be grateful, to endure. But I believe our survival is not a secret—it’s a strength.
The FNN Harbour Foundation UK was born from that truth.
It is a space where disabled women who have or are experiencing domestic or emotional abuse can find safety, understanding, and dignity. A place where their stories matter — and where we don’t ask them to “be strong” alone, but remind them that they already are.
We work to make sure no woman feels unseen, unheard, or unsupported because of her disability. Through peer support, awareness, advocacy, and education, we are building a community that believes survivors and fights for accessibility in every corner of the domestic violence sector.
Strength looks different for everyone. For some, it’s leaving. For others, it’s surviving another day. For me, it’s founding this space to say to every disabled woman out there: You are not alone. You are still strong.
Message from the Founder
“The FNN Harbour Foundation UK was born out of pain, resilience, and an unshakable belief that no one should have to face violence alone. As a disabled woman, I know how silence and isolation can deepen abuse—how financial control, emotional harm, and physical violence are often hidden behind closed doors. This foundation exists to break that silence. We stand beside disabled survivors of domestic abuse, helping them rebuild safety, confidence, and independence. Our mission is simple but urgent: to make sure every disabled person knows they are still strong, still worthy of love, dignity, and peace. Through practical support, advocacy, and education, we help survivors reclaim their power financially, emotionally, and physically and find pathways to healing and self-determination. This foundation is not charity. It is solidarity—a community built on care, courage, and the belief that survival is not the end of the story, but the beginning of freedom.”
— Dr. Abigail (Abbie) Muchecheti, Founder
Our Vision
A world where disabled people live free from abuse, fear, and discrimination—where safety, dignity, and equality are not privileges but rights.
Our Mission
To support, empower, and advocate for disabled survivors of domestic abuse, addressing emotional, financial, physical, and psychological harm through community programmes, education, and systemic change.
What We Do
At The FNN Harbour Foundation UK, we provide practical and emotional support for disabled people affected by domestic abuse — including physical, emotional, financial, sexual, and psychological violence. Our work focuses on safety, recovery, and empowerment, ensuring that every survivor can rebuild their life with dignity and independence.
1. Advocacy and Awareness
We raise awareness about the often-hidden experiences of disabled survivors of abuse and challenge the social attitudes and institutional barriers that silence them. Through campaigns, workshops, and training, we educate communities and service providers to recognise, believe, and respond to disabled survivors with care and respect.
2. Survivor Support and Guidance
We offer confidential guidance and one-to-one support for disabled people experiencing or recovering from domestic abuse. Our trained advocates help survivors access safety planning, legal advice, and emotional support while ensuring that accessibility needs are always met.
3. Financial and Independent Living Empowerment
Many disabled survivors face financial control and dependency. We provide resources, mentoring, and partnerships that help survivors regain financial independence, including budgeting support, benefits navigation, and skills training to promote long-term self-reliance.
4. Education and Community Programmes
We run community education initiatives to promote healthy relationships, disability rights, and inclusive safeguarding. Our workshops equip professionals, carers, and organisations to better understand the intersection between disability, power, and abuse.
5. Systems Change and Policy Work
We advocate for structural change by engaging with policymakers, local authorities, and service providers. Our goal is to ensure that all domestic abuse frameworks and services are inclusive of disabled survivors’ needs, from accessible housing and healthcare to fair representation in decision-making.
Our Promise
We believe that every disabled person deserves safety, respect, and the freedom to live without fear. The FNN Harbour Foundation UK exists to stand with survivors—to listen, to act, and to rebuild hope, together.
Our Trustees
The FNN Harbour Foundation UK is guided by a small group of trustees who bring both lived experience and professional expertise in disability advocacy, social work, and trauma-informed care. Together, they ensure that every decision is rooted in empathy, integrity, and accountability.
Our trustees have each faced or supported others through isolation and injustice—their shared commitment is what keeps the Foundation strong.
Full trustee profiles will be shared once our registration process is complete.
